*COVID 19 Update regarding public worship for St. George’s, Cwmparc & St. Matthew’s, Treorchy.*

The parish of Pen Rhondda Fawr officers (wardens & PCC secretary) held a meeting to discuss our planned reopening of our church buildings for worship. As you will remember we had hoped to reopen the church buildings on Sunday February 7th, but caveated that date dependent on a review to be held just prior to the planned reopening. After careful assessment of the present situation, and looking ahead to where the country hopes to be, in relation to vaccinations and a lower risk of community transmission, a new date of March 14th (Mothering Sunday) is now the agreed date for opening St. George’s & St. Matthew’s to public worship again. By that time, unless the Welsh government or advice/direction from the Church in Wales makes it not possible to open our church buildings, public worship in the parish churches will resume.

The worshipping life of the parish will continue in the meantime online and we are looking at ways in which we can mark the beginning of Lent that will be open to those online and to those who are not.

Fr. Philip, and the officers are aware of the impact of this decision on many people who feel the sadness of not being able to come together to worship, in buildings sanctified over the long years by prayer and the celebration of the sacraments. They understand those feelings and share them. The decision made was not an easy one but that which we feel however to be the right for the well-being of our congregations.

Keep safe and please remember the ministry of all in our parish in your  prayers.

‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me’ (Philippians  4v 13)

As Christians lead our lives  in the words that we find from St. Paul above. Words that speak of our confidence is the purpose and presence of God’s love even in the most testing of times. In the darkness of a year that has seen so much pain, doubt, fear and sorrow we have looked to that divine love to enable us; to strengthen us for
our journey through life.

In greeting the New Year of 2021 we have a great deal to look forward to with hope and confidence.
The development of vaccines and new treatments for overcoming COVID 19, the wonderful work of our medical and scientific community and enduring quality of human love are blessings we rejoice in and are thankful for. Through it we will see renewal of family life, community gathering and a world seeking to rebuild.

In looking forward then in bright dawn the New Year would speak to us of Fr. Haydn and I offer our prayers for you, your family and friends. That the year ahead may be a happy, a healthy and and a hopeful one.

Yours in Christ’s enduring love,

Fr. Philip.

John 1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.

The above words from the beginning of John’s Gospel speaks of the love of God in Christ Jesus, the living Word, shining in the darkness and the darkness not overcoming it.Every Christmas time we hear or read these words as part of our celebration of the Holy Nativity. May the love of God, given to us in Christ, the babe of Bethlehem, shine in the hearts and souls this Christmastide at is what a difficult time for our families, our friends, our community and our world.
